Our Curriculum
At Applewood Learning Center, we strive for a comprehensive educational preschool curriculum that is fun and exciting.

We focus on preparing children for school by creating a school-like environment and aligning our curriculum with the Texas pre-kindergarten curriculum guidelines. We involve the whole child by incorporating activities from all key areas of development, including language and early literacy; math; science; social studies; social, personal and emotional development; physical development and movement; health and safety; technology; and the fine arts.

Our students are provided a variety of learning opportunities that include teacher-led activities as well as student-directed discovery centers. Our children are given opportunities to work in cooperative groups, as well as individually.

Phonics and early reading strategies are taught daily, along with many opportunities for writing and sharing. Each day, our teachers encourage and inspire children to grow and develop. We believe literature is an incredibly important part of learning, so we read to our students every day and involve them in literature-related activities and crafts.

We teach D'Nealian handwriting so that our students will be prepared for using that style of writing in the classroom, as part of the LISD curriculum.
